African Wildcat

Scientific Name: Felix silvestris cafra

Sub - species: One of the five sub-species of wild cat  

Distribution: Sub-saharan Africa, excluding the deserts of the Namibian coast and areas of rainforest

Habitat: Found in a wide range of habits, as long as they can provide cover.

Description: Similar in appearance to a domestic cat but with longer legs. Two colour phases iron gray and tawny grey. Marked with vertical stripes, but these can be quite faint. Most characteristic feature is the red-brown colour on the back of its ears, over the belly and on the back of its legs. Length 46 - 66 cm, weight 2.4 - 5.5kg.

Hunting method: Spot and stalk, calling up.
