Background
We have an exclusive partnership with a family-owned hunting hotel of international top class. This is an offer for hunters seeking the ultimate Scottish hunting travel experience, with accommodation tailored specifically for hunters and their companions – and, not least, first-class hunting opportunities in close proximity to the hotel. The family’s purpose in acquiring the hotel in April 2007 was to combine the perfect stay with the perfect hunting on an उत्कृष्ट estate. In other words, a complete hunting experience where both accommodation and hunting grounds are tailored to the hunter, and where the partner offers extensive experience and a high level of service.
The family that runs the hotel has access to more than 40,000 hectares of professionally managed hunting within a 35-minute drive from the hotel.
Accommodation
The hotel, located just one hour from Edinburgh Airport, is beautifully situated on the banks of the River Tweed in the heart of the Scottish Borders – the border region towards England in the south. From most of the rooms and lounge areas, there are views of the river.
The hotel is a luxuriously furnished 4-star property with an outstanding restaurant. The cuisine is naturally based on game and seasonal local produce. The hotel is equipped with a secure gun room for storing guests’ firearms and ammunition, as well as a drying room for wet hunting clothing. For several years, the hotel has received the prestigious award “Scottish Country Sports Hotel of the Year” in recognition of the service it provides to its hunting guests.
The Hunt
The pigeon shooting is conducted in the traditional way using hides, decoys, etc. Between 2–8 hunters can participate at a time – the more, the better, as it helps keep the pigeons moving.
The best periods are after harvest in July/August/September or during the spring months of March, April, and May, when shooting takes place over newly sown fields.
Results will naturally vary depending on weather conditions and shooting ability. The success of the hunt also depends heavily on the stage of the crops and the timing of sowing and harvesting. However, under the right conditions, very successful days can be experienced.
Over the years, the average has been around 20 pigeons per hunter per day, but results depend on many factors, and days with over 100 pigeons are certainly not uncommon under optimal conditions.
The host and his professional team will continuously ensure that hunters are moved to the locations where pigeons are most active, helping to ensure that everyone gets the most out of the day.
