Distribution: Southwestern Gobi desert (Mongolia), northwest China/Tibet.

Habitat: Steppe and semi-desert regions, with grasslands and canyons in mountain areas.

Description: Largest member of the Camelidae, the Bactrian Camel weighs up to 700 kg. It measures up to 2,10 m over the shoulder and reaches a total length of 3 m without tail (55 cm). General colour light to dark brown. The coat is thick and wooly in places. The long neck has mane-like hairs growing on the front. The camel has two humps and has probably been domesticated since 2.500 bc.

Hunting method: The Bactrian Camel is protected by law in both China/Tibet and Mongolia.
