Addax

Scientific Name: Addax nasomaculatus

Subspecies: None

Distribution: Lives in small isolated herds in North Africa (Chad, Mauritania, Libya and Sudan)

Habitat: Desert and semi-desert.

Description: Large antelope (100-125 kg) with spectacular black horns, diverging and spirally twisted. General colour very variable but normally whitish fawn, with black and brown markings on head.

Hunting method: In Africa almost only hunted from car, as it is difficult to pursch. In former times it was normally hunted from horseback.

Hunting available in: Totally protected in its original area of distribution, but can be hunted on game farms in South Africa and USA.
