Scientific Name: Tremarctos ornatus

Distribution: Northern Bolivia, Peru, Columbia, western Venezuela and Equador.
Habitat: Alpine rainforests and other broadleaf forests. Also sometimes found in treeless or dry regions between 500 and 4.000 meters.
Description: Large bear weighing around 200 kg. and measuring up to 90 cm over the shoulder, reaching a total body length of around 2,10 m. The coat is black with conspicuous, white spectacle-like pattern on face.
Hunting method: In former times from horseback, lying in wait near bait or stalking. Today the Spectacled Bear is protected by law.
