The ibex live on steep, inaccessible mountain sides in the high central Asian mountains and in southern Siberia. The hunting is in Alpine terrain 2,500 to 3,000m above sea level. Hunting ibex is both exciting, difficult and fascinating all at the same time.
Season is open from August 1 till December 31.
Best period is November – beginning of December.
This is a classical mountain hunt. The horses are used to transfer necessary equipment to the spike camps and during hunt also if terrain permits. Good physical conditions required as a lot of hunt is done on foot in the steep mountains. The base camp is located at the altitude of 5.900 feet. You hunt at 8.850-11.500 feet. The average shooting distance is 300-350 yards. It is advised to be ready for a long distance shot – sometimes up to 500-600 yards (depending on hunter’s skills).
Day 1 Arrival to Almaty. Custom formalities, car transfer to the hunting area. Arrival at the base camp, rest.
Day 2 Transfer to the spike camp.
Day 3-7 5 day hunt.
Day 8 Car transfer to Almaty, departure from Almaty.
Normally the first and final nights are spent in a base camp, which often consists of yurts/gers, hunting cabins or tents. These camps have no modern facilities, but it is possible to take a shower.
