South American Grey Fox

Scientific Name: Lycalopex griseus

Subspecies: None recognised

Distribution: Argentina and Chile

Habitat: Occurs in a range of habitats from the warm arid, scrublands of Argentina, to the arid Patagonian steppes and the forests of southern Chile.

Description: A fox-like canine, measuring between 65-110 cm in length (including a tail of 20 -43 cm) and 2.5 -5.5kg in weight. Reddish brown head with large ears, and a distinct spot to the chin. Tawny body with a grizzled appearance, the thighs are crossed by a dark bar. Undersides pale grey. Long bushy tail with a dark dorsal stripe.
