The Mendoza Vineyards

Mendoza lies in the west of Argentina, and it the most important wine producing district in Argentina. Mendoza accounts for no less than 80% of the country’s total wine production, and you can find grapes varieties such as Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Malbec, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah. The historical roots of wine production in Argentina stretch back more than 400 years, when it was discovered that Mendoza, with its 300 days a years of sunshine, was the ideal area to grow grapes. The region experience a rapid growth in grape production and today there are more than 1500 wine producers spread out around Mendoza. A large proportion of these vineyards are still family owned.

Several of the vineyards offer visitors the chance to experience a unique insight into wine production. Just the view over the vineards with the snow clad Andes mountains in the background is a wonderful experience in itself. It is well worth taking part in some wine tasting during your visit, as this will help to give you a complete picture of the wines produced here in Argentina, many of which are not unknown back at home.
