Flying D Ranch lies in south westMontana near the  Yellowstone National Park.  The ranch is 55,000 ha. in size and borders the Gallatin National Forest, the  Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge and the Spanish Peak Wilderness, a total of nearly  32 million ha. The ranch has two large rivers on its eastern and western borders, the Gallatin River and the Madison River. The ranch also has a number of lakes, the largest being Spanish Creek and Cherry Creek. The Spanish Peak mountains reach an altitude of 3.000 m above sea level, while the mountains on the ranch reach altitudes of up to 2,000 m. The district is characterised by wide valleys, low mountains , with many high snow-clad  mountains in the background.
