White-tailed Deer (Oceania)

Scientific Name: Odocoileus virginianus

Subspecies: Not relevant here.

Distribution: Was introduced into South Island and the Steward Island of New Zealand in 1901 and 1905.

Habitat: Forest and farmland.

Description: Medium sized deer weighing up to 140 kg and measuring up to 1,10 m over the shoulder. General colour rufous brown in summer and greyish brown in winter. The antlers point backwards then curve forewards.

Hunting method: Stalking and lying in wait.
