Springbuck/Springbok, Black

Scientific Name: Antidorcas marsupialis

Subspecies: The black springbok is one of the colour phases of springbok, that have been bred on some South African game farms from naturally occurring animals.

Distribution: South Africa

Habitat: Dry grasslands, bushlands and scrublands of southern Africa.

Description: A slender antelope species, up to 84cm high at the shoulder and weighing  between 27 - 42 kg. Although born black, adult black springboks are two-shades of dark chocolate brown in colour with a black stripe on the side. White markings on the face develop as the animals mature.
