Reedbuck (Common)

Scientific Name: Redunca arundinum

Subspecies: None

Distribution: Angola, Southern part of Congo, Southern Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia (Caprivi) and South Africa.

Habitat: Open bush and savanna

Description: Middlesized antelope with a shoulderheight of up to 100 cm and a weight of 70 - 80 kg. General colour uniform greyish fawn, tinged with brown, with a white spot on the chin. The fur is soft, almost wool-like. The horns are black, slender and curve slightly forwards which gives the reedbuck's their characteristic look. They utter a shrill whistle when disturbed.

Hunting method: Pursch or tracking with trackers. Another method could be to sit in a tree in the vicinity of the grazing grounds of the reedbuck, as it likes to lie in the longish grass in the middle of the day when it is very hot.
