Hartebeest, Western/Bubal Hartebeest

Scientific Name: Alcelaphus b major

Subspecies: Is itself a subspecies of Alcelaphus buselaphus.

Distribution: Chad, CAR, Cameroun, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Benin and Senegal.

Habitat: Open country, light bush and savanna.

Description: Middlesized antelope,that weighs around 170 kg and measures 120 - 140 cm over the shoulder. General colour almost uniform, varying from sandy fawn to bright reddish. The horns are heavy and deeply ridged, doubly curved, first rising outwards or backwards, then curved outwards and finally bent abruptly backwards, which gives them a very unique appearance ( the curvings are not quite as marked as with the Red Hartebeest).

Hunting method: Pursch or tracking with trackers.

Hunting available in: Cameroun, Benin, Burkina Faso, CAR and Chad.
