Pere David's Deer (Europe)

Scientific Name: Elaphyrus davidianus

Subspecies: None.

Distribution: England (introduced from China)

Habitat: Swamps and other wetland areas, preferably with tall rushes and reeds.

Description: Large deer weighing around 250-300 kg and measuring up to 125 cm over the shoulder. General colour greyish brown summer and winter. The antlers are heavily and irregularly branched.

Hunting method: Pürsch.

Hunting available in: England (the species became extinct in China during the Boxer-rebellion, when its distribution was limited to a zoo in Beijing. The Pere David's Deer was discovered in 1865 by the French missionary Arman David. The first individuals came to England in 1898.).
