Bat-eared Fox

Scientific Name: Otocyon megalotis

Subspecies: None.

Distribution: South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Somalia and Sudan.

Habitat: A wide range of savanna and dry open plains, semi-desert and desert.

Description: A small, long-legged fox,weighing around 5 kg, with a shoulder height of 35 cm, not unlike a little jackal, with short muzzle and enormous ears used for listening for insects and mice in the ground. Face blackish, upperparts grizzled sivery buf. Flanks lighter, underparts buffish. Limbs darker, black at their extremities.

Hunting method: Pursch. Bat-eared Fox is not hunted much. It is seen as a very useful animal, as it eats insects, rats, mice and smaller snakes.
