Indian Rhinoceros

Scientific Name: Rhinoceros unicornis

Subspecies: None.

Distribution: The valley of the Brahmaputra-river in Assam, West Bengal and the Terai in Nepal.

Habitat: Tropical jungle, drier deciduous forest and swamps.

Description: The largest of the three Asian Rhinoceros' weighing up to 2.200 kg and measuring up to 1.90 m over the shoulder. It may reach a total body length of 3.80 m without tail (80 cm). This rhino has only one horn. The skin may reach a thickness of 21 mm and looking very armour-like.
