The fertile, generous and friendly land of Azerbaijan has diverse landscape. Mountains cover 60% of the total area of the Azerbaijan republic. Azerbaijan is located on the junction of a number of zoogeographical zones, characterized by a specific fauna. Due to the diverse natural conditions Azerbaijan formed a colorful animal kingdom. For many trophy hunters, country’s name is almost synonymous with the Dagestan Tur that inhabits the Caucasus Mountains at the northwestern border with Russia. The Tur hunting is a real challenge, so be ready mentally and physically. For those who dare to come, these treed steep mountains shall prepare a gift of a long-desired trophy and local professionals will make sure this is one of your best hunting memories.

The average horn length of the 7-9 year old Tur is 29-32 inches and reaches 33-35.5 inches for a 10-13 year old Tur. The Turs older than 9 years have very thick horns at the base, up to 11-12.5 inches in circle. The animals aged up to 7-9 years have symmetrical horns with the ends pointed upwards. Older Turs often have broken or rounded horns. Eastern Tur (Dagestan Tur) counts both towards Ovis and Capra Slams.

Hunting season:

June 1 – November 30.

Hunting:

The hunting is traditional spot-and-stalk hunt. Tur inhabits the mountains of Azerbaijan at the elevations between 7,500-11,500 feet. The tent camps are set up at suitable locations. The camping areas can be reached on horseback. Generally the hunters continue hunting on foot because the terrain is too steep to use horses. In this region one can usually spot big groups of Tur, consisting of 20-100 animals, so you can expect to see a good number of animals and find a desired trophy Tur. Shooting distance 150 – 350 yards (100 – 300m).

Route:

Day 1: Arrival in Baku, customs formalities, overnight
Day 2: ground transfer to Scheki 3-4 hours, accommodation at the base camp (hotel), 2-3 hrs horseback transfer to tented fly camp.
Day 3-7: 5 day hunt.
Day 8: Return to Baku, stay overnight in the hotel.
Day 9: Departure home.
